This is the official website of the Hiwassee Chapter of Trout Unlimited. TU is a national organization whose mission is to conserve, protect, and restore coldwater fisheries and their watersheds. The homewaters of our chapter is the Apalachia Tailwater section of the Hiwassee River. Each year we participate in a variety of activities in support of the fishery, such as river cleanups, bug samplings, youth and adult education, and advocacy meetings with management agencies.

All are welcome on our site. If you browse around, there is a lot of info useful to any fisherman or lover of the beauty of nature. We hope to foster responsible use of the resources, so future generations can enjoy our river as much as we do.

There is a link to a page about the Hiwassee Chapter, with info about meetings, personnel, joining, donating, and activities. You are invited to donate!

There are also maps, which are printable, and information about different landmarks on the river, including some gps info to help you learn your way around. One of the advantages our fishery has, since much of it is in the Cherokee National Forest, is abundant public access and amenities.

We have a photo page with big fish and other items of interest. If you have a suitable photo you are welcome to email it to the webmaster for consideration. It doesn’t have to be a big fish, but the general guideline is relevance to our fishery.

Our forum often provides answers to questions, recent trip reports, and notice of current events. All may view, registration to post is free and easy. We insist that you be well mannered and courteous and respectful of other posters.

Of particular interest to newbies is the plan a trip page, which tells you what you need to know to fish the Hiwassee.

Finally, there is a page with links of interest, and current information items at the left on the home page. Enjoy the site. It’s a beautiful river.
