Annual Tellico River Clean-Up

USDA Forest Service officials at the Cherokee National Forest host the annual Tellico River Clean-Up typically on the 2nd Saturday of March. Registration will be from 8:00 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Tellico Ranger Station.
Last year’s clean up included nearly 150 participants and approximately half a ton of trash collected along Tellico River, North River, and Citico Creek. Forest Service representative, Mary Jane Burnette said, “Everyone is encouraged to wear long sleeve shirts as well as sturdy shoes or boots. Gloves, garbage bags and trash pickup will be provided. This is always a fun and rewarding event.” Clean up participants will be treated to a cookout at the North River Checking Station located on Tellico River Road near Green Cove. The Chattanooga Trout Association will be grilling hot dogs for participants from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) will provide homemade chili and other side dishes. TWRA will also offer tours of the Pheasant Field Fish Hatchery for participants. Door prizes will be drawn around 11:30 a.m. at the North River Checking Station.
This event is sponsored by the Forest Service, the Tennessee Valley Authority, Trout Unlimited, Chattanooga Trout Association, Keep Monroe Beautiful, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, Indian Boundary General Store, Tellico Outfitters and Starr Mountain Outfitters of Etowah.
